Over sixty years ago, the Elletson family were making their historic, family recipe ice cream from the very same shop at the centre of the Fylde Coast market town of Poulton. The Sedmans family came next, followed by Atkinson and Harper who sold the recipe with the shop to us, the Jones family. When we took over 25 years ago and it became known as the New Penny.

As a family business, my dad Trevor, mum Janet and I have made, refined and crafted the very same recipe over the years to improve it still further, using locally sourced whole milk, cream and eggs, along with British Sugar to create the indulgent taste of the artisan, handmade true dairy ice cream which you enjoy today. And now Tom as the 3rd generation is carrying on the tradition of continuous improvement of the ice cream.

The New Penny logo is my mum Janet, the original owner of the family business, and is just how she remembers her own mum, my grandma Bertha Smith, in her own mop cap. Traditional values and traditional tastes are right at the heart of this product and our business. 2014 marked the 25th Anniversary Year of our ownership of the New Penny so winning Ice Cream Maker of the Year was a doubly sweet celebration!

We were delighted that all our hard work was rewarded when New Penny Vanilla was voted the Best Artisan Vanilla Ice Cream in the UK for 2014, and the Jones name now has the honour of joining an esteemed list of famed Italian ice cream makers.

Thirty flavours are regularly made including some sorbets, and others can be made to order. We source the finest vanilla from Madagascar to create everybody’s favourite (and award winning!) flavour.
